The practice of living purposefully is a daily, conscious affirmation. It involves identifying your short-term and long-term goals or purposes and the actions needed to attain them. You also have to live in that space between what you know, what you profess, and what you do.
Identify your goals. Put thoughtful, valuable reasons behind wanting to achieve them. I chose to be a consultant because there is no greater joy than being able to help others succeed. Lifting others lifts me up as well.
Formulate your action plan. Organize your daily, weekly, monthly behaviors in service of these goals. What small changes or action items can you make each day that will move you closer to achieving your goals?
Maintain accountability. Regularly check in with yourself. Are you meeting your daily goals? Have your goals shifted but not your actions? Do you have an accountability partner?
Pay attention. Live consciously and respect facts. Honor your emotions, but defer to the facts before you whenever possible. Seek to understand not just your inner self, but your external representation. Did your actions yield the results you were expecting? Recognize when you need to go back to the drawing board and start again.
Celebrate the small wins towards large victories. Don’t forget to take a moment to really acknowledge when you’ve achieved a goal. Reinforcing those positive emotions will motivate you and propel you into your goal-achieved future faster than you ever thought possible.
